WHALES STRANDED IN HOKOTA, JAPAN
A pod of 149 melon-headed whales beached themselves in Hokota,
Japan, on Friday morning. Rescuers reportedly only saved three before calling
off their rescue efforts before dark Friday evening.
A coastguard official said they see one or two whales washing
ashore every year, but this may be the first time over 100 were found on the
beach.
